Dear Sara,
I love the character of Lafayette Reynolds, played by Nelsan Ellis, on TRUE BLOOD. Is the character true to how he’s written in Charlaine Harris’ books?
Peace,
Maureen K.

Alcide Herveaux and Sookie Stackhouse
Supernatural - Super Couple
By June K. Williams

A new season of True Blood is about to begin and I hope this is the year the writers will open the gates for romance between Alcide and Sookie.

Joe Manganiello portrays Alcide Herveaux in True Blood, the werewolf construction worker who sometimes works for vampires. Alcide is presented as a man with working class values and a definite soft spot for one telepathic waitress – but he comes with baggage (don’t they all ladies?), specifically a V-addicted raging ex girlfriend.
We had the chance to ask Joe some questions a couple of days before his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers appeared in Super Bowl XLV. Joe shares his favorite workout music, his motto for living and what the gloomy donkey, Eeyore, from “Winnie the Pooh” has to do with True Blood.
TB-N: It’s hard to find a single article about you that does not mention your abs or physical attributes. Does it get old for you? What does Joe really see when he looks in the mirror?
JM: My idol as a young actor was Robert DeNiro who was famous for inhabiting his characters and transforming himself physically.
James Frain Interview
by Abbie Bernstein
Yorkshire-born James Frain has been having a very good run playing very bad people of late. True, he’s had some time off for good behavior, but he’s largely been delightfully dark as Audrey Raines husband in 24, a hostile extraterrestrial in INVASION, the ambitious Thomas Cromwell in THE TUDORS and as a menacing computer program in TRON: LEGACY. Last year, he stole scenes on TRUE BLOOD as love-crazed - and just plain crazy - vampire Franklin Mott. Now Frain is a regular on NBC’s new superhero series THE CAPE, which airs Mondays at 9 PM. The title character, aka Vince Faraday, played by David Lyons, is a cop who is framed for murder by Frain’s immensely powerful and corrupt industrialist Peter Fleming, who has his own secret identity as criminal mastermind Chess.

Alcide Herveaux
Sookie Stackhouse meets a guy with a pulse
On the surface Alcide Herveaux is the kind of guy many mothers would love to see their daughters date. He is well spoken, family oriented, hard working with a good income coming in from his contractoring business. This drop dead gorgeous alpha male is simply oozing testosterone.
He knows how to sweep a girl off her feet yet still minds his manners like a true gentleman. He is also a werewolf, guess nobody is perfect. When you are a telepathic waitress from a small Louisiana town like Bon Temps and have been recently courted by not one but two powerful vampires it is refreshing to find a guy who doesn’t broadcast his thoughts the way the average human male does yet can still spend the day with you at the beach. Alcide is the son of the leader of the Long Tooth pack and he and Sookie meet when as a favor to Eric he assists Sookie in a mission to retrieve Bill. Bill had been kidnapped by Lorena, his ex or at least that is how it appears. This was way back in Book 3 of the Southern Vampire series, “Club Dead”.
Being female it doesn’t take Sookie very long to feel the pull of Alcide’s “animal magnetism” so to speak. She isn’t about to fall into bed with him but it is hard not to compare this very warm blooded man to the room temperature males that have been claiming her attentions recently.

JOE MANGANIELLO INTERVIEW
By Abbie Bernstein
Most actors prefer to play complex characters, but relatively few are given the opportunity to play a character that embodies two different species. Actor Joe Manganiello (pronounced MAN-ga with a hard g nel-lo) has given a lot of thought to playing construction worker/werewolf/potential Sookie Stackhouse suitor on the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series TRUE BLOOD, created and produced by Alan Ball from the Southern vampire books by Charlaine Harris. “I think it makes things a little bit more complex, and I think with the fact it is a shapeshifter and the fact that they only shift into one animal, there are a lot of those traits that at any point in time are present. I think there’s kind of a sliding rule between human and wolf. At any point in time, they can exhibit qualities of both.”

Alexander Skarsgård Interview

Exactly what the hell is Eric Northman doing? Viewers of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD, nominated this year for an Outstanding Drama Emmy, know that Eric has discovered that Russell Edgington, vampire king of Mississippi, was responsible for the deaths of Eric’s Viking royalty parents back in the days when Eric was still alive. Vikings are famous for taking revenge, and Eric, played by Alexander Skarsgard, is clearly determined to get some. However, so far Eric is being very cool and calculating, using Russell to rescue progeny Pam from the clutches of the Magister. King Russell doesn’t seem to have a clue - yet, at least - that Eric is anything other than a new loyal subject.

NELSAN ELLIS INTERVIEW

If Lafayette Reynolds were a real person, he’d have actor Nelsan Ellis to thank for saving his life. As fans of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire books know, Lafayette is murdered early on in the series. The books are the basis for the HBO hit series TRUE BLOOD, one of the few genre shows ever to be nominated for a Best Drama Series Emmy (as it is this year). Ellis’ performance as Lafayette so impressed TRUE BLOOD creator Alan Ball that the outspoken fry cook/V dealer character has survived as an integral element of the show, now in its third season.
