Alcide Herveaux
Sookie Stackhouse meets a guy with a pulse
On the surface Alcide Herveaux is the kind of guy many mothers would love to see their daughters date. He is well spoken, family oriented, hard working with a good income coming in from his contractoring business. This drop dead gorgeous alpha male is simply oozing testosterone.
He knows how to sweep a girl off her feet yet still minds his manners like a true gentleman. He is also a werewolf, guess nobody is perfect. When you are a telepathic waitress from a small Louisiana town like Bon Temps and have been recently courted by not one but two powerful vampires it is refreshing to find a guy who doesn’t broadcast his thoughts the way the average human male does yet can still spend the day with you at the beach. Alcide is the son of the leader of the Long Tooth pack and he and Sookie meet when as a favor to Eric he assists Sookie in a mission to retrieve Bill. Bill had been kidnapped by Lorena, his ex or at least that is how it appears. This was way back in Book 3 of the Southern Vampire series, “Club Dead”.
Being female it doesn’t take Sookie very long to feel the pull of Alcide’s “animal magnetism” so to speak. She isn’t about to fall into bed with him but it is hard not to compare this very warm blooded man to the room temperature males that have been claiming her attentions recently.
Alcide is not without problems. He is still nursing a broken heart over Debbie Pelt, a sweetheart who has proven to more of a manipulative bitch than a soul mate. Debbie is a were-lynx and when she broke up with Alcide she became engaged to a were-owl (I kid you not). Having dumped Alcide one might think even a psycho-bitch like Debbie would not be jealous and controlling regarding him. One would be wrong as she still feels she has property rights where Alcide is concerned. This can not turn out well.
*********************BOOK SPOLILER ALERT BELOW********************
Ms. Pelt does not want to see him cozy up to a human woman and not just because she is vindictive and mean-spirited. Oh no, she is particularly concerned because Sookie was Bill Compton’s girl and Debbie was involved with Bill’s torture. To dispose of Sookie she attempted “murder by vampire” having locked Sookie in a trunk with Bill who was at that moment a half mad starving vampire. That didn’t work. Sookie was attacked but didn’t die from it. She also tried to shoot Sookie but Eric took the bullet for her and Sookie ended up being forced to kill Debbie. And you though your ex was annoying.
*****************************END ALERT*******************************
In addition to ex-girlfriend ennui and angst, Alcide worries about his clan, whether or not it is time for weres to come out as the vampires did, and clan politics which often turn brutal and bloody. He still can manage a love life but will it be with Sookie? One thing is certain; he has captured the hearts of viewers.
