One is that the HBO series, based on Charlaine Harris’ novels about what happens when vampires make themselves known to the general populace, has been renewed for a fifth season. Another is that Alan Ball, who brought TRUE BLOOD to episodic premium cable and has been its show runner from the beginning, will continue in that capacity.

Charlaine Harris’ “Southern Vampire” books concern the goings-on in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, resident telepath waitress Sookie Stackhouse and a whole lot of supernatural beings. These creatures include vampires, who have recently revealed themselves to humans worldwide after the development of the synthetic blood substance Tru Blood. Harris’ books appeal to a wide range of readers. One of these was Alan Ball, an Oscar winner for his original screenplay for American Beauty and creator of HBO’s highly-acclaimed series Six Feet Under, which ran for five seasons.

Whether you are a fan of “The Southern Vampire” series by author Charlaine Harris, or a newly turned devotee that came into the fold with the start of the True Blood television series one thing should be clear to you, 
Sookie Stackhouse can now choose from a smorgasbord of attractive males. I’ll admit that I’ve read all the books in the series and I have my favorite but for the sake of fairness, at least in this post there will be an objective assessment of all five males.

Music may not be the most important element in a film or television program but it should prepare you for what is going to be taking place onscreen. “Bad Things”, the theme music on True Blood, HBO’s “reimagining” of the wondrous world of Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Series, does an outstanding job of setting both mood and place. The musician responsible is Jace Everett and I’m beginning to think he is the best thing to come out of Texas in a long while.
