The book called the NECRONOMICON is referred to in I don’t know how many horror novels, movies and TV series. Is this a real book?

Dear Karen –
The NECRONOMICON (as far as we mere mortals know) was originally invented by the writer H.P. Lovecraft as an internal reference point for his interlinked horror fiction. The name has since resurfaced frequently, as the title of a number of different novels, a spellbook, a tarot deck and the title of an anthology of short fiction by Lovecraft and others. Over the years it has come to represent the archetypal evil manuscript.
