Avatar: 3D - Movie Review
Sexy Blue “Jazz Hands” Across Pandora!
by Theresa Bane

Where to begin with my movie review of “Avatar?” I suggest that if you have not already read my previous blog, “Avatar: Blue has never been so Sexy” that you start there. In that bit of literature that will be hailed by future generations as “A Brilliant Masterpiece” I give my pre-assessment of the movie as well as what I suspect the plot/storyline will be in whole based on nothing else but having seen the movie previews and several commercials. So, if you have not, stop reading right now and go read it. If you already have, then by all means, do proceed.

Now, before you see the movie know this: it is a staggering three hours long. Also, a quick note on the computer animation that made Sigourney Weaver look good - don’t buy into the hype, it was just good. And by “good” I mean just that, “good,” not “great” or “wonderful” or “substandard,” just regular, plain old white bread “good.”

But I digress.

Avatar - Blue has never been so SEXY!
by Theresa Bane

About a year ago I heard that “Avatar” was being made into a movie and I thought “cool.” Back then my nephew was of the age where he had discovered “Avatar,” loved it, and subjected the rest of the family to it. It didn’t take but a few episodes to suck me in and have me hooked as well. Then a while later it was painfully brought to my attention that the movie being made entitled “Avatar” was not in fact “Avatar, the Last Air Bender” that I was loving on but rather “Avatar” a Sci-Fi action flick of similar name but completely different everything else. Harsh. So I surfed on over to IMDB and checked out this other movie.

Where The Wild Things Are
When Good Children Tales Go Bad
by June K. Williams

Going to a film like Where The Wild Things Are was a bit of a stretch for me as I neither read the book when I was a child nor read it aloud to any of the children I babysat when I was a teenager. Not that I wasn’t aware of it or hadn’t read it as an adult and certainly found myself touched by the gentle delicate story of a young lonely boy who is freed by his boundless imagination. Maurice Sendak’s illustrations of this as well as his numerous other works for children have permeated popular culture. How, I wondered would the film makers handle the touching, wistful nature of this 48 page picture book and turn it into a 90 minute movie? Read More→

Horror Film Countdown to Halloween
© Buzzy Multimedia

Now, everyone who knows me, knows that Halloween is my favorite Holiday - even more so than Christmas…. horror t-shirts, fright rags, horror movies so naturally, if you’re gonna like that pumpkin gorged patch of earth, the lonely strolls through the cemeteries, the candy, the costumes, the ghosts, goblins and ghouls that come with it…then there has to be a spot deep down inside for Scary Movies. But not just any ‘Scary Movies’ mind you…they have to be bad…. real bad.

AUSTRALIA - The Movie
A Review
by June Williams

“Crickey mate she’s a beaut!”

The previews for this film scream screen epic. I won’t lie. It is an epic, yet not the story of an entire country but instead it shows life in one part of that nation continent during a very particular time in history.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Movie Review
by June Williams

Spoilers Below

I must begin by telling you that I have never read the books upon which this movie is based. My perceptions are influenced only by what I have seen onscreen. I was aware going in that this was to be a movie about teenagers and vampires and having imbibed my share of vampiric fiction as well as been a fan of Forever Knight, Buffy, Ultraviolet and True Blood I am reasonably familiar with the genre.

Quantum of Solace
A James Bond Movie Review

by June Williams

For many years I was not a fan of the James Bond movie franchise. I loved Ian Fleming’s books but what I saw on film was like looking at the comic book version and that is an insult to comic books because when done well comics can exceed pulp fiction and aspire to art.
