Dear Chris –
In the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, Orcs are an actual race of beings, presumably created by the union of male and female Orcs. They are extremely hostile to non-Orcs and, for that matter, to each other. The Uruk-haiwere created by the wizard Saruman for his own dark purposes by magically combining human men and Orcs, with the finalized Uruk-hai being literally dug up from the mud – no procreation involved. Neither Orcs nor Uruk-hai should be confused with goblins, which risks offending all three species and is just plain incorrect.
