Dear Sara,
A lot of my favorite TV shows mention centrifuges. What exactly is a centrifuge?
Curiously, Sandy V.
Dear Sandy,
A centrifuge is a piece of equipment that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis – although the intent is different, it’s a little like those fair rides where people spin outward on swings that are all connected to a pole in the center between them. Centrifuges are customarily used to separate heavy materials from lighter ones; the are used in industries ranging from dairy to nuclear science.
