The Social Network - Movie Review

A movie about the creation of Facebook? Come on, that sounds more boring than that new Julia Roberts flick. Then again, it was directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room, Benjamin Button). And I kind of like that Michael Cera knock-off Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Adventureland). Also, I’ve heard some Oscar buzz about the film, so I decided to give it a chance. I must say up-front, I came out of the theatre less-disappointed than I expected to be.
I’ll go ahead and say that The Social Network is a character driven drama, and the narrative itself is rather bland and unimpressive. The film follows Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg), creator and current CEO of the Facebook Corporation, as well as the youngest billionaire in the world. Mark is a “computer guy” studying at Harvard, trying desperately to separate himself from the rest of the academic elite.
