The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo
by June K. Williams

This is NOT a feel good Christmas story. It takes a long look at some of the ugliest things people are capable of. It is brutal. For people like me who had a hard time with the battle scenes in Braveheart back in the day, be forewarned. Some of this can turn your stomach. Much of the film deals with research. It may be one of the few I have ever seen that makes research exciting.
The story itself is told very well. A sense of urgency and the feeling of impending disaster is never far away. Suspenseful, thoughtful and very edgy are the words that come to mind for the writing, directing and the performances. I am pretty sure most people (including me) would expect Daniel Craig to excel in the role of Mikal Blomkvist , a journalist whose life is in freefall but he was equaled if not surpassed by Rooney Mara who plays the brilliant and damaged Lisbeth Salander. Christopher Plummer is perfection in the role of Henrik Vanger and the rest of the cast were all first rate. In retrospect many of twists and turns could, even should be anticipated. The filmmakers do not pull rabbits out of hats and while some of the casework may seem miraculous there is solid groundwork for everywhere they go and everything they cover..or uncover as the case may be. There is within the story the perverted and sinister use of a number of passages in the bible on the part of the baddest of bad guys. I wish there were two more that could have been utilized, ones that Dexter Morgan is familiar with. Be sure your sin will find you out and There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. Funny how loathsome lunatics never seem to know that using “religious” word can never mask the stench of evil.
I rate the movie 4 stars…on par with Fight Club - So if you can stomach violence watch it while it is still in theatres.
