Is There A Cure To The Robert Pattinson Virus?
Three Women - Three Diagnoses
by Stefica Budimir-Bekan
“Twilight” fans have been anxiously awaiting “Eclipse”, the third instalment of the vampire saga, which will hit theatres on June 30th. Furthermore, everybody is “robsessed” again. With his portrayal of the vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight”, the 24-year-old British hunk Robert Pattinson has captured the hearts of an untold number of fans. Frenzied girls throw themselves on him and scream “Edward, bite me!” Such hype hasn’t existed since the Beatles. He has become one of the most desired actors on the planet.
“There was a group of girls that left little notes in my car. One of the first notes said: ‘I’m not weird, but please call me.’ The next day, the note said: ‘Please, don’t ignore me.’ And the next day it said ‘I’m going to kill myself if you keep ignoring me! But, I’m not weird, ok?’”, Robert Pattinson said in an interview with OK magazine. Does your heart beat faster when a silver Volvo passes by? Have you ever added Edward Cullen on Facebook or even googled him? Then the Pattinson Virus might have infected you, too.
“I Won’t Get Older Than Robert Pattinson”
Noah, 8, from Orange County, California, likes the baseball scene and Emmett Cullen. His sister Ava, 6, is in love with Alice and is saving up her allowance to buy the Alice action figure. But, it is their mother who is the biggest “Twilight” and Robert Pattinson fan. She’s head staff writer at robstenlovers.blogspot.com and just calls herself E.
The 26-year-old will be 27 soon but decided to turn 25 again. “There’s no need to get any older than Robert Pattinson”, she says. However, the mother of five stresses that it is sad that the English actor can’t go anywhere now and be a normal person. “I think fans that attack him, without permission, ruin it for everyone and make it impossible for these people to lead normal lives.” Nevertheless, E. admits that she had also done crazy things to catch a glimpse of the British heart-throb. She was camping out over night with her 8-month-old daughter, Eden, so they could get into Hall H to see the “Twilight” stars at Comic-Con last year. “Taking care of a husband and five kids can be a little mundane after 10 years. I consider the day a success if no one has an accident in their underwear. “Twilight” is my retreat after the kids go to bed”, she explains.
Edward Vs. Robert
E. fell in love with Edward right away. “Who doesn’t love a hot guy with impeccable manners? Add a dash of danger and you have a man every girl can swoon over. It doesn’t hurt that his hair radiates awesomeness”, E. says. “I love how selfless Edward is in his relationship with Bella”, she continues. She, however, thinks that Edward is a stalker and if he wasn’t hot, that totally wouldn’t fly with Bella or any other girl for that matter. But he is, so he can do whatever he wants and it’s all good.
But, what exactly is it that makes the real Robert? “It’s Rob’s awkwardness, his hair, the fact that he’s sort of a homebody, because I am, too, and his hair. Did I mention his hair? I like his hair. He must use some sort of black market gel to hold it in place and it intoxicates anyone who sees it”, E. jokes. “Robert strikes me as genuine and sincere which is uncommon in young men these days. He’s really critical of his acting and I take that as someone who truly cares about his craft. And, he hasn’t given into the typical Hollywood bad boy image”, she continues.
She Wants to Be Mrs Robert Pattinson
Sarah Barry Williams has two daughters, Chariss and Rhiannon, but only Chariss, 16, is a “Twilight” fan. They live in a village called Gowerton which is just outside Swansea, Wales. “Swansea has the highest rainfall in the UK. It is the equivalent of Forks Washington where the “Twilight” saga is based”, Sarah says.
The 40-year-old published a song called “She Wants to Be Mrs. Robert Pattinson” on YouTube some time ago. Since then, the track has been clicked over 20,000 times. Chariss was telling her about her idea to go to London for the “New Moon” premiere to see Robert Pattinson. Sarah picked up the guitar and started playing a few chords, playfully teasing her. She started adding more lyrics and it became a whole song about Chariss’s infatuation. “The lyrics for the verses came from Chariss’s particular way of admiring Robert Pattinson and how she was putting posters of him on the ceiling. It became an observational empathetic song about her crush on Robert”, Sarah says. The song is even mentioned in one of the books on the “Twilight” star called
“Robert Pattinson A-Z” by Sarah Oliver.
Sarah then published other “Twilight”-related songs. All of them, including an EP named “Twilight inspired fan songs”, are available on iTunes. “The craziest thing for me is the attention that my “Twiligh”t inspired songs have received. They are basic songs recorded with just a guitar and vocal, no fancy production”, Sarah explains.
“He Is A God”
Chariss said “Mum, you have to read these books”, and Sarah became a Twilight fan, too. They are both planning a trip to London for the “Eclipse” premiere. Sarah believes that books that completely engage the reader, such as “Twilight”, assist in encouraging a generation to read more. “Twilight” is a healthy escapism for Chariss into another fantastical and wonderful fictional world”, Sarah explains. “She can adore Robert from afar, a safe distance, and she’ll never be rejected or hurt by him.”
Chariss describes Robert Pattinson in just three words: “He’s a God!” Recently, she went as a journalist to the premiere and press conference for Pattinson’s new film “Remember Me” in London. She was offered the opportunity by a magazine who had written about the Robert Pattinson fan song. Chariss was so nervous sitting in the same room as the English actor for over half an hour, her legs were shaking, and her mouth was dry, but she managed to pluck up the courage to wave her arm in the air and ask him a question. It was a very long question and, of course, he had to look at her the whole time she was asking it.
“It was such an incredible experience. I’ve never thought in a million years that I would actually get that close to him, leave alone get to speak to him”, Chariss says. She has a dream of one day maybe becoming an actress or an author, or even both. She is studying Drama for A level along with Art and English Language and Literature but she does fantasize about one day being Robert Pattinson’s leading lady in a film or a play.
Please, give me the antidote!
I have been a Johnny Depp fan for ages but I have to admit that I might have caught some dangerous RPattz-bacilli as well. I might have even got an overdose. Robert Pattinson has that je ne sais quoi. His messy, sexy “just-got-out-of-the-bed”-look makes me want to carry him back to the sheets.
Edward Cullen is the ultimate man but he’s so dangerous that you can’t even have sex with him because you might get killed - accidentally. By the way, do I really want to be picked up for a date by a Volvo? Nope! I wouldn’t be afraid of being in one room with Robert. Edward instead gives me the creeps. Should I ever meet Robert, I won’t throw myself on him. I will buy him a beer in a pub in London’s Soho. And Edward? Edward is probably going to watch us from the window.
Robert, should you ever read this, please, call me! But, I’m not weird, ok?
