Sentinel Wars readers coming to Falling Blind
will once again meet up with the three Sentinel Guardian Races that protect humankind from the demonic Synestryn. (the Theronai, the Sanguinar and the Slayers).
It is easy to get hooked into a series that deals with the monumental conflict between good and evil. This struggle is brought home as the characters are in peril of losing their lives or worse, their souls.
There is never a shortage of knock down drag’em out battles. The narratives are dark, gritty, and action packed. You will also find buckets of UST (unresolved sexual tension) and sex of the very hot, steamy earth-shaking variety. The world building is fascinating and the layers grow with every novel.
Although this is the 7th book in the series, Ms. Butcher has not lost what makes the Sentinel Wars enjoyable. She brings us new and interesting characters whose circumstances cause you to dive right in and become vested in their fate. At the same time the narrative advances the overall story arc of the Sentinel races, their fight against the demons who would devour mankind, and the Sentinel’s own struggle to survive against the forces of darkness.
From the start there is danger and exhilaration in large doses. Despite the grim circumstances and a desperation that is palpable, humor does break through now and then, mostly from Rory a young woman subject to blinding visions and whose blood is a magnet for demons. Rory is unaware she is anything other than an unlucky human. Caine, a Theronai warrior who soul is in imminent danger finds Rory under attack. He uses his sword to defend her and his power to mend her till he can get her to safety. Sex, intimacy and the magnetic draw between them is virtually cosmic in depth and breadth. While their connection is undeniable, both Caine and Rory have personal demons to fight before it is too late for either of them. Only as a bonded pair can they truly serve and protect humanity in the way that they are best able and only as a bonded pair that they can know peace. Not every couple in the Sentinel Wars Series
has a happy ending and I won’t tell you if these two manage to do so. What I will say is it is never boring and though I may want to scream at certain characters it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it thoroughly.
